Frankie is an 11 month old sweet Frenchie who was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction. He was acting very sick for a couple weeks.
We took him to surgery for an explorer and found that his bowels had perforated. This meant that his intestines was no longer intact and material in the bowels were now leaking into his abdomen. This causes septic peritonitis. Septic peritonitis is an inflammatory condition of the peritoneum that occurs secondary to bacterial contamination. This condition has high morbidity and mortality due to secondary multiorgan failure.
Because Frankie was a fighter, Frankie’s owners wanted to give him a chance. We resected (cut out) and resutured his bowels together where there was damage and a hole. We flushed out his abdomen to remove the bowel material and we kept him on intravenous fluid and intravenous antibiotics.
Frankie came back for rechecks and he is now 10 days post surgery and he is doing well. He has regained his appetite, stopped vomiting, and is gaining more energy day by day.
We are so proud of Frankie’s fighting spirit and we thank Frankie’s dad for taking such good care of him during this uncertain time.
